GREAT HOSPITALITY FOR 150 YEARS

It began as a farm where travellers knocked on the door. The first guests were mountain hikers and pilgrims on their way to Nidaros. On Easter Eve 1932, everything burned down, but the family rebuilt in less than a year. During the second world war, the resistance stored ammunition in the barn while the general staff stayed at the hotel. Before the Olympics in 1994, the family invested over NOK 100 million for restoring rather than demolishing the old building. The same driving force has kept Nermo going for almost 150 years.

Nermo is a family-run hotel in Øyer, right next to Hafjell in Gudbrandsdalen. The family has been running the hotel for five generations, since 1877. Johannes Nermo is the current host, and his son Jon is already involved in the operations as the sixth generation. Nermo is a member of De Historiske and has been named Norway's best boutique ski hotel every single year since 2016.

De Historiske is a quality organisation for listed hotels and restaurants of historic significance. Membership requires hospitality, authenticity, good food and tranquillity. The organisation is internationally anchored through Historic Hotels of Europe.

Nermo is family-run, but it is not a typical "family hotel" with a playground and childcare. We are happy to welcome families, and we have a swimming pool that is popular in the summer. But we are primarily suitable for couples, groups of friends and conference guests who appreciate good food, history and tranquillity.

Nermo has been named Norway's best boutique ski hotel ten years in a row by the World Ski Awards. In both 2025 and 2026, we've been named one of the world's 25 most romantic hotels by Historic Hotels Worldwide. We share the list with hotels in Florence, France and Lake Como.

Your group can have the entire hotel almost to themselves. No strangers in the lobby. Good distance to other groups in the restaurant. The food comes from the farm, not from a commercial supplier. And between sessions, your group can play golf, try the mini golf course, relax in the hot tub or hike in the mountains. Everything is right outside the door, without booking a bus or activity package.

Most places to stay in Hafjell consists of apartments where you cook your own meals and check out without anyone knowing you've been there. At Nermo, you will meet your hosts. The kitchen makes breakfast with local ingredients and dinner from scratch. You stay in historic buildings with character, not in standard rooms. And if you need a lift, we are happy to pick you up at Lillehammer train station.
