In 1877, people knocked on the door of a farm in Øyer. They were given shelter and food, without it costing a fortune. That’s how it all started.

Today, the fifth generation continues to run the place with the same principle: people should feel at home here, not just checked in. We are Miljøfyrtårn certified and part of Historic Hotels & Restaurants of Norway (De Historiske).

Hospitality for nearly six generations

Johannes Nermo grew up surrounded by guests, kitchens, and mountains. Today, he runs the hotel together with his family, just as his father did before him, and his grandfather before that. The fire of 1932 destroyed everything, but the family rebuilt it. War came and went, as did financial crises. And every single time, Nermo Hotel rose again.

Not by changing direction, but by staying true to what has always worked: welcoming people properly. That is the difference between running a hotel and truly hosting guests.

Named one of the world’s most romantic hotels

Nermo Hotel has been named Norway’s best boutique ski hotel every year since 2016 – ten years in a row. In both 2025 and 2026, it was also named one of the world’s 25 most romantic places to stay. The list includes beautiful hotels in Florence, France, and by Lake Como.

We see this as recognition of what we have been doing for 150 years: taking good care of the people who visit us.

Historic buildings

The main building from 1932 has 31 rooms, each with its own character. No two rooms are the same. In the old storehouses, we have built suites, offering traditional log timber charm combined with modern comfort. The old barn has been converted into meeting and event spaces. On the property, you will also find the region’s only outdoor swimming pool.

Guests enjoy staying in buildings with history, but it is the people who welcome you at the door that make you come back.

Activities at the hotel

Here you will find Norway’s only 18-hole miniature golf course, our own 9-hole golf course, as well as a swimming pool open during the summer season. We also offer a sauna and a fitness room.

Heated outdoor pool

The temperature is kept between 27–29°C, making it just as suitable for children as for adults. Inside the pool area, you’ll find comfortable sun loungers, as well as a large lounge area just outside.

Our facilities

At Nermo Hotel, we offer both a sauna and a fitness room for all hotel guests. In addition, we have a heated outdoor swimming pool and a golf course available during the summer season.

Where is Nermo located?
In Øyer, right next to Hafjell. 15 minutes north of Lillehammer. Approx. 200 km or two and a half hours by car from Oslo. Roughly two hours from Oslo Airport Gardermoen.

Do you have Wi-Fi?
Yes, we have free Wi-Fi for all guests.
Can we bring a dog?
Yes. Dogs and other four-legged friends are welcome in selected rooms. Check with the front desk. Cleaning fee NOK 295.
What kind of rooms do you have?
We offer several types of accommodation: 31 rooms in the main building from 1932 (from standard double rooms to junior suites with fireplaces), four storehouse suites in buildings dating to before 1730, two large farmhand suites in the yard, and 53 apartments with 4 to 8 beds at Nermotunet, close to the hotel.
What kind of apartments does Nermo have?
We have 53 apartments at Nermotunet, right next to the hotel. From 4 to 8 beds, with its own kitchen, living room and bathroom. Some have a sauna. You stay on your own, but can use the hotel's facilities whenever you want. Breakfast can be ordered as well.
What is the story behind Nermo Hotel?
It began as a farm where travellers knocked on the door. The first guests were mountain hikers and pilgrims on their way to Nidaros. On Easter Eve 1932, everything burned down, but the family rebuilt in less than a year. During the second world war, the resistance stored ammunition in the barn while the general staff stayed at the hotel. Before the Olympics in 1994, the family invested over NOK 100 million for restoring rather than demolishing the old building. The same driving force has kept Nermo going for almost 150 years.
Is Nermo a family hotel?
Nermo is family-run, but it is not a typical "family hotel" with a playground and childcare. We are happy to welcome families, and we have a swimming pool that is popular in the summer. But we are primarily suitable for couples, groups of friends and conference guests who appreciate good food, history and tranquillity.
Has Nermo received any awards?
