Eco Lighthouse certified

Nermo Hotel is certified as an Eco-Lighthouse (Miljøfyrtårn). This is not about fine words, but about concrete actions: waste sorting, locally sourced ingredients, reduced food waste, and conscious energy use. Many of these measures were in place long before sustainability became a common focus. When your food comes from the farm and the surrounding mountains, there is simply less transport involved.

An important part of this certification is waste sorting. At a place like Nermo Hotel, with guests, golfers, and food service, proper sorting has great value. We have placed strong emphasis on recycling and made it easy to sort waste both from guest rooms, apartments, and our own operations.

If you would like access to the environmental report from Miljøfyrtårn, it can be provided upon request at booking@nermohotell.no. Guests and suppliers are always welcome to share feedback on our environmental work, as we greatly appreciate suggestions for improvement.

Sustainable food

Nermo Hotel has its own kitchen garden where we grow herbs, we have pigs that roam freely at Hornsjøseter throughout the summer, and calves grazing at Nermo Farm.

In recent years, we have almost completely phased out buffet service and replaced it with plated service for both lunch and dinner. Our goal is to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goal of halving food waste by 2030.

Solar panels

In autumn 2022, we installed solar panels on the barn roof, and we have now also installed and commissioned a new solar installation below the driving range at the golf course.

Why two systems, you might ask? We have carefully calculated this, and now we have one system facing south (the barn roof) and one facing west (the golf course). This allows us to generate electricity throughout the entire day.

Our goal is to cover 15% of the total electricity demand needed to operate Nermo Hotel and its associated apartments.
