Three days, two hotels and Rondane in between

Norwegian Scenic Route Rondane – short break

Some journeys are about arriving. This one is about everything that happens along the way.

This short holiday along the Rondane National Tourist Route begins at Nermo Hotel in Øyer and ends in the historic mining town of Røros, with a day trip through Rondane National Park in between. Two nights, three days, and a landscape that changes your pace. The dark mountain ridges surrounding Rondane rise more than two thousand metres above sea level.

Day 1:

Arrival Hafjell and check-in at Nermo

You check in at Nermo Hotel in Øyer, overlooking the Gudbrandsdalen valley with Hafjell Alpinsenter as your closest neighbour. Spend the evening at your own pace. If you would like something to do before dinner, we offer golf, a miniature golf course, and hot tubs on the property, while both Hunderfossen Family Park and Lillehammer are only a short drive away.

In the evening, Restaurant Nermostuene serves a two-course dinner made with ingredients from the farm and surrounding area. No rush. No standard buffet.

Day 2:

Along Rondane to Røros

After breakfast, the journey continues north. The Rondane National Tourist Route follows the mountains from Venabygdsfjellet to Folldal, and there are plenty of reasons to stop along the way. At Sohlbergplassen by Lake Atnsjøen, you will experience the same view that Harald Sohlberg painted in 1914. The architect behind the viewing platform designed it specifically to recreate that exact atmosphere.

Further along the route, you will find Atnasjø Kafé serving coffee and traditional baked goods, Folldal Mines for those interested in industrial history, and Sollia Church, one of Norway’s best-preserved baroque churches.

Upon arrival in Røros, you check in at Vertshuset Røros in the heart of the historic mining town. Here, the wooden buildings and cobblestone streets have been preserved much as they were when mining kept the town alive. In the evening, the inn’s kitchen invites you to dinner featuring local ingredients and dishes inspired by Røros’ culinary traditions.

Day 3:

Røros and the journey home

Breakfast at Vertshuset Røros, followed by as much or as little of the historic mining town as you like. Olavsgruva offers insight into what once kept the town alive. The streets themselves are well worth a slow wander.
