Our best tips for the perfect wedding celebration

Planning a wedding can be both exciting and overwhelming — we are here to help

Many questions come up: Where should we host the celebration? Do we need a wedding cake? How should we handle traditions like throwing rice? At Nermo Hotel, we have hosted weddings for nearly 150 years, and we are happy to share our experience to help you create a memorable celebration.

1. Choose the right venue

Start by finding a venue that suits both the size and atmosphere you want. A slightly smaller venue is often better than one that feels too large and half empty — it creates a warmer atmosphere. Be early when booking, as the most popular venues are often reserved years in advance.

At Nermo Hotel, you can rent the entire hotel, either the main building, the barn venue, or both, for groups from 20 to 125 guests — all year round.

2. Food and menus

The food sets the tone for the celebration, but it is the overall experience people remember. We offer traditional food prepared from scratch by our chefs, with flexible menus tailored to your wishes.

Make sure guests have something to eat upon arrival, and consider serving late-night food as well — both for the atmosphere and for the morning after.

Restaurant Nermostuene has hosted celebrations for nearly a hundred years.

3. Wedding cake

A wedding cake is not mandatory. If you choose to have one, we recommend serving it with coffee, perhaps alongside the first dance. Alternatively, the budget could be spent on other experiences that matter more to you.

4. Phones and memories

It is possible to ask guests to put away their phones and enjoy the moment, but in that case you should have a professional photographer. Photos can later be shared through a dedicated website or hashtag so everyone can enjoy the memories afterwards.

5. Traditions and decoration

Throwing rice is becoming less common — flower petals or sparklers are both atmospheric and environmentally friendly alternatives.

Decorations and details matter more than people think, and small thoughtful touches are often what guests notice most, both in photos and during the celebration.

6. Music and entertainment

Music creates atmosphere. A DJ or live band usually brings more energy than a simple playlist, and we are happy to recommend trusted contacts we know work well. Set aside part of your budget for entertainment — you will not regret it.

7. Seating arrangements

Think carefully about how guests are seated. Mix outgoing personalities with quieter ones, and consider whether long tables or round tables work best for the venue and guest list. Good seating arrangements help everyone feel comfortable and create a better atmosphere.

8. The day after

A relaxed breakfast with your guests the next morning is a lovely way to end the celebration. Cakes and memories tend to taste even better the day after the wedding dinner.

9. Start planning early

Begin by finding the perfect venue and setting the date. Give yourselves enough time to plan, and do not hesitate to ask family, friends, or us at the hotel for help. At Nermo Hotel, we assist with everything from setup and decoration to food and activities, so you can fully enjoy your day.
